Killean Girls’ Trophy Triumph
On Friday, our boys and girls were invited to the Dromintee Tournament in memory of Bernie O'Rourke, an important member of the Dromintee Parish and school community.
With the weather very unpredictable, the boys and girls did their school proud, displaying incredible determination and skill in each of their matches.
The last few years, our Gaelic teams have proven time and time again that they can overcome any hurdles. Our boys’ teams have won many trophies and brought lots of success, but on Friday it was the girls turn. This group of girls have been amazing and are a shining example that hard work, teamwork and resilience pays off. The girls team that are made up of P7 and P6 girls, were brilliant throughout. They all the schools to progress to their last match against Dromintee, which would decide the winners of the trophy. What a final match it was! The girls were a credit to themselves and to the school, working as a team and fighting hard to the final whistle, where they would be crowned winners. They are the first girls’ team in a very long time in our school’s history to bring silverware through our doors. Girls we could not be prouder of you! This day belongs to you and will never be forgotten.
A special mention to Mr Mc Kevitt who helped coach the girls today along with Lenka, your support and guidance was invaluable to the girls. Thank you!
The boys team again consisting of our P7 and P6 boys. They came up against some very strong opponents and held their own as always, working together and giving it their all. The boys unfortunately were one win short of snatching another piece of silverware but should be so proud of themselves not just today but for everything they achieved this year. Boys, we could not be prouder of you all.
Thank you to all the parents who came out to support the children, not just on Friday, but throughout the year. We really appreciate all the support from the sidelines.
As a school it was important that each child has the opportunity to practice their skills and to have fun - that is what Gaelic football is all about.
